What is Leverage?

Modified on: 21st November 2023

Leverage means you can have a small amount of capital in your account controlling a larger amount in the market.  When you make a trading account, the amount of leverage you choose depends on how much risk you’re comfortable with.

We can’t tell you which leverage to pick. It’s a good idea to do some research to figure out what works best for you.

The leverage you need might vary based on the specific pair or instrument you want to trade.

With 100:1 leverage you are effectively using $1 to hold $100 dollars. With 500:1 leverage will enable you to hold $500 using $1.

We would suggest that you check the best option for you with your mentor if you have one or conduct an internet search to understand the concept fully.

Depending on the pair/instrument that you trade with, different leverage options may apply.
